This site is concerned with the interaction of science, archaeology and handicrafts; especially in the field of copper and its alloys. Through various activities, such as crafts demonstrations, craft events and seminares I explore and explain the realm of ancient craft techniques, for example lost wax casting or the reconstruction of prehistoric tools. You will find a great deal on the ancient metal craft techniques and I hope you enjoy yourself whilst you are here! |
My main objective though is to understand the creative capabilities of our ancestors which they used to shape their environment after their fashion.
My task as archaeologist is to decrypt the information any given artefact might hold. The close examination of an artefact and the subsequent reconstruction of the production sequence (chaîne operatoire) thereof might result in highly instructive insights into the mindset of ancient people. |
