The people of the Urnfield culture used a chisel very much alike to chisels still used today by carpenters. The chisel possesses a socket accepting the shaft. Implements like those can be cast in permanent stone moulds with a core. The cutting edge is hardened by deforming the crystal structure of the metal (hammering). Although bronze is comparatively soft metal, the results achieved with these tools are extraordinary.
