Large silver brooch from Pleidelsheim, an early medieval burial ground in south western Germany. The smaller specimen is displayed here only for scale purposes. Here you can have a look at the smaller brooch. Brooches were used as clasps for the garments people wore. Apart from that they fulfilled the additional function of a status symbol.
